The Start of Me and You-Emery Lord

Good Day or Evening Bibliophiles. . .depending on where you are in the world.

Today i'll be talking about The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord, I've had this book for a month! I started reading it about a month ago, then found the Jodi Picoult-Small Great Things and kind of had to put it down. . .I explained in a previous post that this is a bad habit I have.

Any way lets start with the blurb shall we. . .

CAN YOU PLAN HAPPINESS?

It's been a year since Paige's first boyfriend died in a swimming accident and its time she rejoined the real world.

So she makes a plan
1. Date a boy (long-standing crush Ryan Chase seems like the perfect choice)
2.Attend parties (with best friends by your side: doable
3.Join a club (simple enough, right
4.Travel (Might as well dream big
5.Swim

But when she meets Ryan's sweet (but so nerdy) cousin, Max, he opens up her world and Paige's plans start to change. . .

Is it too late or a second chance at life

So when I finally finished my previous read, I got through this book quite quickly. It has quite a few quotes that I absolutely loved and the theme of new beginnings and pushing through tough times, recreating who you are after a tragedy made it quite the read. The characters include Paige, Ryan Chase, Max, Tessa, Kayleigh, Morgan and Paige's sweet granny. There is little mention of Paige's boyfriend that died in a drowning accident. I loved that this book wasn't too long after the Jodi Picoult novel and it has also served as a bit of a pick me up lately since of the contents of my current read "Semicolon- Your Story Isn't Over" is a little heavy.
What did we love about this book?
I would definitely have to say the theme of recreating or finding oneself after a tragedy. I haven't read many young adult novels that do this really well. Oh and when Max call's Paige "Janie", Pride and Prejudice reference. . .read this book to find out more.

What did we not we love?
Ummmmm I guess when Paige finally realizes who she's really in love with (not giving any names, I WILL NOT SPOIL THIS FOR YOU). I honestly feel like I waited and waited for the moment to be magical. . .hey at least 5 pages or a whole chapter but to my disappointment it felt like one page worth. What follows are a couple of emails between the two love birds that I skimmed through, its not what I expected really. I guess I could also say the ages of these characters made it a little hard to connect, Paige is 16. . .Its weird to think of a 16 year old knowing anything about being in love. I think I enjoyed the book more for the two themes I mentioned earlier.

Quotes
“Darkness might keep flooding in, but I finally had just enough light to find the way back to myself.”

“In friendship we are all debtors. We all owe each other for a thousand small kindnesses, for little moments of grace in the chaos.”

“Like you had been drowning, and the book was air.”

“In books, sometimes the foreshadowing is so obvious that you know what’s going to happen. But knowing what happens isn’t the same as knowing how it happens. Getting there is the best part.”

Small Great Things-Jodi Picoult

Small great things! Smaaalll Great things! Oh Jodi Picoult. I must admit that it  took me some time to finish this book. I would say the reason for this would be the contents of this book; there's a lot of information to digest, to understand, to sympathize with . . . and even relate to? Blurb "When a newborn baby dies after a routine hospital procedure, there is no doubt about who will be held responsible: the nurse who had been banned from looking after him by his father.  What the nurse , her lawyer and the father of the child cannot know is how death will irrevocably change all of their lives , in ways both expected and not.  Small Great Things is about prejudice and power; it is about that which divides us and unites us." This book tackles prejudice and racism, homophobia in the most phenomenal ways. Three characters Ruth Jefferson an African American nurse, Turk Bauer the white supremacist and Kennedy, Ruths lawyer and baby Davis....

The Five People You Meet in Heaven-Mitch Albom♡

This book is more than just a fictional title, this book made me stop and think of all of the interactions I have had with people that I have come into contact with.  The Five People You Meet in Heaven follows the story of an elderly mans life and death. This man goes by the name " Eddie ", often called Eddie Maintenance because of his name tag. Eddie dies while trying to save a little girl at his place of work, and thus starts a journey through Heaven. In his heaven, he meets five people, some strangers, some people he knows very well. These five people teach him lessons and  help him understand the impact he may have had in their lives, and the impact they had on his.  What did we love about it? Mitch Albom is a great writer! I got through this book in three days and this is because I really needed to know who Eddie was go...

Letters to the Lost-Brigid Kemmerer

Good Morning Bibliophiles!!! I found it! I loved it! I read it in two days! Bibliophiles this is an amazing book, it gave me a good share of good "feels". There are many themes that are focused on in this book, these themes include grief, the death of a parent, and the repercussions of  alcoholism.  This book introduces you to Declan Murphy a high school student serving community service, and Juliet Young a high school student who has recently lost her mother and finds comfort in writing her mother letters and leaving them at her gravestone. Declan and Juliet cross paths at a cemetery both for different reasons, but these different reasons are what bring these two characters together.  What did we love about it? Can I say that Bridig Kemmerer has been officially been added to my list of favorite authors. . .  its a very short list. I love this authors writing, its very seldom that I will read books from the same author, but after reading both these...
