Everything Everthing -Nicola Yoon
“Sometimes I reread my favorite books from back to front. I start with the last chapter and read backward until I get to the beginning. When you read this way, characters go from hope to despair, from self-knowledge to doubt. In love stories, couples start out as lovers and end as strangers. Coming-of-age books become stories of losing your way. Your favorite characters come back to life.”
This amazing book was referred to me by a friend and colleague, and I must add that I did not need much convincing after watching a snippet of the trailer of the movie that cannot come soon enough. this book only took me a day to read because of its structure, its super reader friendly and really grabs your heart and doesn't let you go. Without giving any of the goodness away, this young adult fiction novel looks at the life of Madeline "Maddy" Whittier who suffers from a severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) that in turn does not allow her to leave her house. Madeline's life and reality consists of her love for books, her mother and her nurse Carla. She assumes her life is going through the motions up until her new neighbors move in. It is when Olly and his sister bring by a bundt cake. . . that a restriction filled love story begins. This is also where Maddy's yearning for life outside of her bubble that confines her begins.
This book was not only moving because the author and her husband put the book together in such a way that you feel Maddy's highs and lows through scribbles and her health charts. this book touches on various issues such as domestic violence and mental illness, but is put together so beautifully that it is hard to put down. I cant lie this book gets your mind going from the very beginning and when you reach the last page, I am pretty sure you'll be faced with my predicament where I flipped the page five or six times because I could not believe that such a beautiful story could end! It was simply Everything! Everything!
My official next read! :D :D :D
